Tabaré

Tabaré is an epic poem by Juan Zorrilla de San Martín, written in 1886 and first published in 1888. It consists of 4, 736 verses divided into ten cantos, and it is considered to be the national epic of Uruguay, and a major piece of literature in the Spanish language. Describing the love of the Indian Tabaré for Blanca, a Spanish lady, the poet reveals the events that led to the extinction of the Uruguayan Charrúa tribe.
